Alabama is still on the hunt for one or two more defensive linemen in its 2019 class, a position it’s already had great success at coming out of the Early Signing Period.
Guys like Alabama commit Byron Young, Mississippi State commit Nathan Pickering, Jaquaze Sorrells, Jared Harrison-Hunte and Florida State commit Quashon Fuller are all in the mix. The latter plans to take an official visit to Tuscaloosa the last weekend before National Signing Day.
You may remember, Fuller told BamaOnLine that the coaching staff FaceTimed with him after they won the Orange Bowl last month.
“I’m just hearing how there might be coaching changes, but they’re still on the same mission,” Fuller said of the staff’s pitch as of late. “They’re trying to get back to that game and win a natty next year.”
The Lehigh Acres (Fla.) Senior product says he’s still hearing from Alabama on a consistent basis despite the staff turnover. He said as of late it’s been Craig Kuligowski and new assistant Sal Sunseri reaching out.
“That was a good hire,” Fuller said of Sunseri who he knew at Florida. “He’s a really good coach.”
“It was really good,” Fuller said of the visit. “I felt like me and him have a really good connection and my mom likes him.”
The All-American defensive lineman admits it’s a little bit surreal having Saban at your house.
“I was like ‘Mom, you don’t understand, this guy is like a celebrity in the football world, like a big celebrity,’” Fuller said.
As for the Seminoles, the nation’s No. 196 overall player has been committed for nearly two years, so he’s very familiar with everything the program has to offer.
“With Florida State, I’ve seen about everything,” he said of his upcoming visit. “I’m just going to be chilling on my visit.”
As for the Capstone, Fuller is looking forward to getting a closer look before National Signing Day.
“I’m trying to see everything,” Fuller said of Alabama. “I want to see the atmosphere, I want to meet some of the players, see what they’ve got to say about the program, I want to meet my D-line coach, talk about the schemes and things like. See if I can feel at home.”
One of the longer tenured 2019 commitments, where does Fuller’s pledge stand with the Noles?
“It’s there,” Fuller said.
The 4-star defensive lineman says Saban and company are making it hard to turn down Bama.
“I’m about to pull my hair out,” Fuller said.
So where does that leave the Tide in the equation?
“They’re right behind (FSU),” he said.
