Another Major Program Reportedly Interested In Hiring Hugh Freeze

The interest in former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze has not cooled since the end of the 2018 college football season. The latest report suggests that a return to the southeastern United States could be in the cards.

According to Fox Sports Radio’s Clay Travis, the Florida State Seminoles have “serious interest” in bringing in Freeze as their new offensive coordinator.

The position was vacated earlier today when OC Walt Bell was picked as the new head coach of UMass.

Per FootballScoop, Freeze and FSU head coach Willie Taggart spent “considerable time speaking” on Monday.

Freeze has been out of work since leaving Ole Miss at the end of the 2016 season. He was recently expected to return to football as the offensive coordinator of the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football.

Freeze went 39-25 at Ole Miss, winning the Sugar Bowl in 2015. However, he left Oxford in a heap of trouble with the NCAA, which could complicate the hiring process for any school that wants to bring him in the fold.

One of Freeze’s most notable accomplishments is his success against Alabama head coach Nick Saban. Freeze is one of only a handful of coaches to boast consecutive wins against Saban, which came in 2014 and 2015.
