Florida State got some good news Saturday morning, when five-star West Palm Beach (Florida) Palm Beach Central cornerback Akeem Dent announced that he will be early enrolling at FSU.
“After a great week at the Under Armour All-America Game I have completed all my high school goals and am now excited to join my college teammates on this journey back to prominence,” Dent wrote in a statement on Twitter.
“I would like to thank God, my mother, my loved ones, my hometown Pahokee, FL, and my coaches and teammates I came across throughout my high school career. This opportunity is one that I am grateful for and could not have done alone. Without further ado, I would like to announce my decision I been made to early enroll at Florida State University. I am committed to success and as always 100 percent Nole Blooded. Shout out Florida Fire.”
Dent, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, is FSU’s highest rated commitment. Clemson and Alabama had been pushing to flip his commitment from the Seminoles.
Dent was not originally scheduled to early enroll – classes start this week – but took measures academically in December to make sure that could happen.
Dent had 67 tackles, 14 pass break-ups, one interception, and a forced fumble during his senior year on defense. He also had five receptions for 123 yards and three touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball.
He is ranked as the No. 3 cornerback and the No. 33 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings.
Dent’s brother Adarius Dent is a walk-on at FSU. He earned the special teams Scout Team Award for his play during the 2018 season.
Four-star guard Dontae Lucas (IMG Academy, Bradenton), four-star linebacker Jaleel McRae (IMG Academy), four-star safety Raymond Woodie III (Florida High), three-star defensive tackle Tru Thompson (Grayson High, Loganville, Georgia), and three-star JUCO offensive tackle Jay Williams (Grossmont College and El Cajon, California native) are all expected to early enroll as well.
Four-star linebacker Kalen DeLoach’s status as an early enrollee is uncertain.
FSU currently is No. 16 nationally in the 247Sports composite team recruiting rankings. The Seminoles are ranked second in the ACC behind Clemson. The Tigers rank fifth nationally behind Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M and LSU.
