Florida State extended an offer to Newton (Texas) three-star running back Darwin Barlow on Thursday evening. Barlow is a long-time TCU commitment who opted not to sign during the Early Signing Period.
FSU did not appear to be in the market for a running back in the 2019 class, but in recent days the Seminoles have begun to show interest in available 2019 prospects at the position. The development could correspond to the possibility of a departure from the current roster, most likely Amir Rasul who has entered his name into the transfer portal (as reported here).
Barlow has been committed to the Horned Frogs since Aug. 23. Barlow could opt to take a couple of visits before National Signing Day, though he has already taken June official visits to Arkansas, Minnesota and Oklahoma State. An unofficial visit to Arkansas is a possibility, as well as an official to USC. Others are also attempting to get into the mix.
Barlow recorded his second consecutive 2,000-yard rushing campaign as he led Newton to its second Texas Class 3A Division II state title in a row. He was named the Offensive MVP of the state championship game. He was also named the AP Class 3A Offensive Player of the Year as a senior.
He is ranked No. 29 nationally among 2019 running backs, as well as No. 57 overall in Texas for his class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
