FSU basketball’s drop in the AP, Coaches Polls & KenPom, NET Rankings

Update: Florida State is no longer ranked in the AP Poll.

There’s never a good time to lay an egg in conference play, but the Seminoles sure did blow a great chance to move back into the top 10. The ’Noles did so by going 0-2 over the last week, with both losses coming to unranked teams (Pittsburgh and Boston College).

Yes, there was significant carnage ahead of Florida State. No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Michigan, and No. 4 Virginia all suffered defeats, but FSU was unlikely to catch any of them in the polls. However, No. 7 Kansas lost to an unranked West Virginia team that was winless in conference play. No. 8 Texas Tech dropped two games to unranked teams, Iowa State and Baylor. And No. 9 Virginia Tech took a no-doubt loss to UVA.

Now the Seminoles, who were ranked No. 11 last week, wait to see just how far they’ll fall instead of seeing which single-digit ranking they’ll have. A lot of teams behind them took care of business, but not everyone: No. 17 NC State went down to unranked Wake Forest, and No. 18 Ole Miss came up short against unranked LSU. And No. 20 Oklahoma and No. 25 Indiana should drop from the roles of the ranked— each of them lost twice to unranked teams.

FSU is down to No. 33 in the updated KenPom rankings, and the Seminoles hold the same rank in the NCAA NET Rankings, although those have not ben updated since Saturday. Be sure to check back here, as we’ll update this piece when polls are released.
