FSU’s options at quarterback are limited

Florida State’s search for a quarterback continues. With only three weeks remaining until National Signing Day, the FSU staff is still looking to sign their first high school quarterback since Willie Taggart has arrived at FSU, over a year ago.

This offseason, the staff has been able to secure one transfer quarterback in former Louisville dual-threat passer Jordan Travis. FSU landed Travis after the former three-star prospect from North Palm Beach, Fla. transferred from Louisville after just one season. Travis is likely going to sit out next season and redshirt due to transfer rules and then he’ll have three years of eligibility remaining.

From the high school ranks, FSU is looking at two primary options. Lance LeGandre and John Rhys Plumlee have emerged as the most likely options to fill FSU’s need at quarterback in 2019.

Lance LeGendre – LeGendre is the No. 5 dual-threat QB in the class per the 247Sports Composite, and he fits what ?Willie Taggart wants in a QB given his athleticism and comfort in a true spread offense. Last week FSU OC Kendal Briles visited LeGandre and locked in an official visit for Jan. 25. Other school in the mix right now include Kansas and Tennessee.

John Rhys Plumlee – Plumlee first started hearing from the Seminoles several weeks ago. He clarified with Noles247 last Thursday evening that he does have an offer from Willie Taggart and company. Plumlee is currently committed to Georgia, but is looking around. Plumlee has a visit set to FSU for Feb. 2. Others teams trying to flip him from UGA, include; Mississippi State, Miami, Duke and Ole Miss. Plumlee is considered the No. 265 overall prospect and No. 7 dual-threat quarterback in the nation.

Chris Nee of Noles247 has learned that FSU OC Kendall Briles and the staff will make in-home visits to LeGandre and Plumlee later this week.  We’ll continue to monitor their status and update their recruitment after FSU visits.

Florida State is also looking at the transfer market for filling their need at quarterback. At this point however, FSU has not made significant progress with a transfer quarterback to list as a legit possibility. Some names that we can confirm FSU has expressed interest in, include; Jalen Hurts, Brandon Wimbush and Tate Martell.

We’ll continue to follow FSU’s actively on the recruiting trail as it pertains to the quarterback position. Stick with Noles247 for any new developments.
