Gameday Central: Florida at Florida State

Florida at Florida State 12:00 PM ET

Watch: ABC/WatchESPN

Listen: ‘Nole Radio Network, Gator Radio Network

Weather: With some luck, we’ll avoid rain for the duration of the game. We’ll have overcast skies with about a 30% chance of light showers. There will be comfortable fall temperatures hanging around 70 degrees. Winds will be WNW at 5 MPH.

The Spread: Florida State opened as a 3 point underdog. Respectable for a 5-6 team playing the 11th ranked team in all the land. Betting must have come in strong for the Gators as the line now sits at UF by 7.5. See the rest of your college football spreads here.

Well, here we are. Florida State fought for a win last week to give themselves an opportunity to save the bowl streak. The ‘Noles will need their second win streak of the season (ouch) to make it happen. Just as important as the bowl itself, the ‘Noles would get the extra practice time that comes with it.

It’s been a rough year. The problems were apparent early and not much has gotten better after that thrashing in the first game against Virginia Tech. Sure there are bright spots on the defense, some of the young players are playing great, and the coaching staff has managed a disaster on offensive line as best they can. But that’s about as much as there is to hang your hat on. A win today isn’t necessarily a break or make game for this new coaching staff or program. The problems will not go away with a win, and there needs to be a ton of work put in on the recruiting trail. But with a win and a bowl game, maybe it will provide a momentum boost for all the work that needs to be done in this rebuild.

It’s been a terrible season of football. Make that two seasons in a row now. But we’ve almost made it to the important off-season recruiting time where hope springs eternal. Let’s trudge through these last couple weeks before the bowl games, shall we? SB Nation tells you what to watch, when, and why.
