There is a little more clarity for Florida State’s coaching staff, or at least to its support staff.
Mark Cala is coming to FSU from Houston, joining recently hired offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, as an off-field coach (believed to be a graduate assistant.) His title, per his Twitter bio, is assistant quarterback coach.
Cala has been with Briles at previous stops at Houston (Offensive Graduate Assistant) and FAU (Offensive Analyst). He previously was at Puget Sound as an offensive assistant in 2015 and played at the Division III school as a defensive back. He was an All-State and All-Metro selection at La Cueva high school in Albuquerque.
It’s likely that Briles will bring at least one more assistant with him from Houston, where he guided an offense that was among the national leaders in points per game and yards per play.
FSU still has one vacant spot on its coaching staff after special teams coordinator Alonzo Hampton was not brought back for a second season.
