TALLAHASSEE — Savannah (Ga.) Islands four-star outside linebacker Kalen DeLoach, along with his parents, made his way to Florida State for his official visit over the weekend.
Entering the visit, Auburn and Michigan continued to heavily pursue DeLoach. But he says his decision is now final.
“I’m locked in,” DeLoach said.
He went even further, confirming that he will sign with FSU on Wednesday, adding that his parents were completely on-board with his decision at this time.
The last several weeks, which saw the Michigan and Auburn staff, as well as FSU, in his living room and visiting with his parents has been difficult, but was also part of making sure he made the right decision for himself.
“It was very stressful,” DeLoach said. “But I had to sit down and look at what was best for me. For me and my future. How would I want to see myself life after football basically. I felt like this was a good place for me to do that. I’m just ready to come to Florida State.”
He went a bit further in discussing the visit.
“It was fun. Very enjoyable. Get around some of the commits, like some of my future teammates,” DeLoach said. “It was a great time.”
DeLoach had been to FSU several times before. How was this trip different?
“The previous times I wasn’t around all of the recruits,” DeLoach said. “When I came here, it made it more comfortable for me. Just to see who I am going to be staying with. Who I am going to be playing with for the next three-to-four years.”
“We all want to come in here and make an impact on the team next year,” DeLoach said. “I feel like all of our personalities came together as one and it just makes everything enjoyable.”
He shared some of what this weekend showed him about it being the right place for him.
“Really the family atmosphere and then like the bond I have,” DeLoach said. “I feel like Florida State is going to turn back around to where they used to be. Teams are going to be scared to play us in the future.
“It was a lot about academics,” DeLoach added of the visit. “They said they were going to set me up for a job if I don’t go to the NFL. I’ll have a good paying job right out of college.”
DeLoach said that the Seminoles are interested in him for ‘any’ linebacker position.
He stated one final time at the end that he was ready for what is next.
“Before the visit, before I came up here I knew I wanted to come here,” DeLoach added. “I feel like this 2019 class that we are going to bring in is going to be something special. I feel like we are going to change the culture and get Florida State back the way they need to be.”
DeLoach is set to sign Wednesday but doesn’t yet know at what time.
He will enroll in the summer.
The 247Sports.com Composite Rankings consider him the No. 14 outside linebacker in the 2019 class. He is ranked No. 243 overall.
