FSU recruiting has been turning up the heat on a couple Miami commits as of late. Could a key departure put them over the top?
FSU recruiting has a huge weekend coming up with Willie Taggart hosting several high-profile recruits and commits on campus as the early signing day draws near.
The Noles are still in need of offensive linemen and linebackers to fill huge needs in the 2019 recruiting class that’s currently ranked No. 13 according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
FSU has two linebackers and five defensive backs committed, but the recent departure of Miami’s Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz could open the door to fill some holes.
Diaz will be the next head coach at Temple after two years at Miami with 11 of Miami’s 15 commits being on the defensive side of the ball.
FSU was already working to flip a couple of players from that class and Diaz’s departure could be enough to put the Noles in the driver’s seat:
- Avery Huff: No. 222 player nationally, 4-star linebacker from St. Thomas Aquinas (Raymond Woodie)
- Jarvis Brownlee: 3-star cornerback from Miami Carol City (Telly Lockette)
There isn’t much overlap when it comes to who Miami is recruiting compared to FSU recruiting as the Noles have a class that’s ranked much higher with better quality players. Miami’s class took another hit as Brownlee de-commited Thursday morning.

However, these are two players FSU has zeroed in on for the 2019 cycle.
FSU is looking to add two more linebackers and probably two more defensive backs so both players would fill needs.
Brownlee is expected to visit FSU this weekend for the big recruiting event and they are working to get Huff to visit.
If both visit it would be telling and could be a sign the Noles will poach two of the higher rated recruits from Miami’s No. 32 ranked recruiting class.
