Miami Hurricanes vs. Florida State Seminoles
ACC basketball continues on Wednesday night when the Miami Hurricanes ((8-6) travel up the state to take on rival Florida State (12-2). Miami is coming off of back-to-back ACC losses to open their conference calendar as they dropped a home game to North Carolina State and then were blown out at Louisville. Florida State also started out with a negative in the ACC as they dropped their opener at Virginia 65-52. Both teams will be looking to rebound and get in the win column in conference play. The Seminoles are favorites in this interstate match up.
Hurricanes Need Quality Wins
Miami has had an up and down early start to their season, with probably more down than Hurricane fans would like to see. The Hurricanes have had a very easy schedule up to this point, but still hang just above .500 on the season. Miami inexplicably dropped games to Rutgers, Yale and Pennsylvania during a horrific stretch from Thanksgiving to December 18.Miami seemed to be getting back on track with a modest three game winning streak after that and before conference play began, but then suffered the aforementioned losses to begin ACC play. The Hurricanes have not had any serious trouble scoring the basketball, but their defense has been abysmal. They have given up over 70 points in 8 games this season and ACC opponents are averaging just under 90 points so far in the two games. This does not bode well as they travel to Tallahassee to take on one of the best scoring teams in the country.
Seminoles Off to Great Start
Florida State came into the 2018-2019 season with high hopes and so far they have not disappointed. The Seminoles already have quality wins against LSU, Purdue and Uconn and have not taken a bad loss yet.Their two losses have occurred on the road against #4 Virginia to open ACC play and a neutral-court game against defending champion Villanova. Florida State is clearly the better team than Miami, but the Seminoles have Duke lurking this weekend, so it will be interesting to see if they are looking past the Hurricanes. Florida State is a high scoring team, so it is fascinating that they do not have a player averaging over 12.7 points per game. The Seminoles are a very balanced team with nine players averaging between 6 points per game and that 12.7 mark. Florida State should be able to score some points on the Hurricanes and send their interstate rival packing.
Seminoles Win Easily
Florida State will be able to simply outscore Miami. The Hurricanes will try to get out and run with them, but just do not have the firepower to stay with them. When Miami gets in a shootout, they lose. I expect them to lose this one big. Take Florida State by about 15.
