Pair of new mock drafts both project Burns to the same team

A pair of new NFL mock teams both project Florida State junior defensive end Brian Burns to the same NFL team, the Carolina Panthers.

The mock drafts come from very different sources. They are Mel Kiper Jr.’s first mock draft for ESPN.com and Pro Football Focus’ third mock draft.

The Panthers select at No. 16 overall.

Here is what Kiper Jr. had to say about Burns potentially ending up in Carolina.

Mario Addison led the Panthers with nine sacks this season, followed by five for the ageless Julius Peppers. Unless Peppers can play forever, this is a clear area of need for Carolina. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Burns, who had 10 sacks in 2018, needs more time in the weight room, but he could grow into a defensive end,” Kiper Jr. writes.

Here is what Steve Palazzolo of PFF had to write about his projection for Burns.

“Carolina is in desperate need of young playmakers along the defensive line and Burns fits the bill after ranking third in the nation with 67 total pressures and a 90.5 grade as a pass-rusher,” Palazzolo writes.

The 2019 NFL Draft will begin on Thursday, April 25 at 9 p.m. from Nashville, Tenn. It ends on Saturday, April 27.
