One of the most important recruits in Florida State’s 2019 class is four-star quarterback Sam Howell. The Sun Valley, North Carolina standout is one of the top high school quarterback prospects in America this year. He has a big arm to match his athleticism and Howell committed to FSU with the intentions of coming in and immediately competing for the starting job.
Howell intends to sign early and the December Signing Day is just over a month away. The ‘Noles have struggled this season, but that hasn’t caused Howell to waiver in his pledge.
“It’s solid,” Howell told Michael Clark of 247Sports when asked where his commitment stands. “There isn’t anything that’s changed my feelings about Florida State.”
“I just believe in coach Taggart and the rest of the coaching staff there. I think this year didn’t go that well but he’s got the program going in the right direciton.”
The only other two teams Howell is hearing from are — UNC and N.C. State.
“Those are the main two. They want to get me back [on campus] one more time,” he said.
As of now Howell has no plans for any other official visits, besides his trip to Tallahassee next weekend. Howell will be taking his official to FSU for the ‘Noles rivalry game against the Gators.
FSU offensive coordinator Walt Bell is the primary recruiter for Howell. The two have a bond dating back a few years.
“I’ve known coach Bell since I was 14 years old, so it’s great with him. We just have a good relationship and I know I can trust him. He was the first to offer me a scholarship and I really trust him.”
Howell says he’s excited for his final visit to FSU before he signs his Letter of Intent with the Seminoles.
“It’s an awesome place, I’m really looking forward to getting back down there. I want to spend time with some of the guys, some of the other commits too.”
