TALLAHASSEE — Florida State coach Willie Taggart channeled his inner-Ric Flair to put the Seminoles’ upcoming game against No. 2 Clemson into perspective.
“If you want to be the man, you’ve got to beat the man,” Taggart said during Monday’s news conference.
He then added Flair’s patented “wooooo” to add an exclamation point on the significance of Saturday’s contest.
OK, so Taggart stopped short of shouting like the wrestling legend. But he did continue to hammer home the importance of the game as he knows the Seminoles must dethrone the conference’s top team before it can make its way back to title contention.
“Great opportunity for the Noles. Looking forward to it,” Taggart said. “Against a really, really good football team, one of the best college football teams out there. You look at their defense, nine returning starters, very challenging. You hear everyone talk about Alabama, Clemson is right up there with them and they have been in the playoffs the last three years.
“So, great football team, comes to Doak Campbell and we’re looking forward to it. Noon, fans. Noon. Go to bed early Friday. Need everybody there. I don’t want to hear we don’t do well at noon games. Those times are over. It’s different. We do very well. So look forward to seeing everyone there at Saturday. Great opportunity for the ‘Noles.”
With that, here are the top takeaways, notes and quotes from Taggart’s press conference as the Seminoles (4-3, 2-3 ACC) turn their attention from a 38-17 win over Wake Forest to a rivalry game against the cream of the ACC, Clemson (7-0, 4-0 ACC).
